Osler's a Way of Life and Other Addresses, with Commentary and Annotations

Shigeaki Hinohara was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan on October 4, 1911. He decided to study medicine after his mother's life was saved by the family's doctor. He graduated from Kyoto Imperial University's College of Medicine in 1937. He began practicing at St. Luke's International Hospital in 1941 and became its director in 1992. As a longevity expert, he cautioned against gluttony and early retirement and championed annual medical checkups and climbing stairs regularly.

In 2000, he conceived a musical version of Leo Buscaglia's book The Fall of Freddie the Leaf, which was performed in Japan and in New York. He wrote several books in Japanese including Living Long, Living Good. He died from respiratory failure on July 18, 2017 at the age of 105.
