More Description'The Road that Runs' is the long-awaited sequel to the highly popular 'Chez Martin'; a gentle journey through the lesser known fruit-growing area of Provence. At the bottom of a dusty lane running from the road between Noves and Cabannes, Monsieur Martin tends his herd of small spotted ponies, wondering who will help him with the miniature riding school. Madame Martin, meanwhile, now successful as a pickle and confiture producer, wonders what else life has to offer; especially since her business partner, that once hirsute feminist, the divinely attired Madame Lapin, has fallen in lust with the paella purveyor from Orange, Jean-Pierre Lucard. This is the South of France so there will, of course, be food and gossip, affairs and politics. In between the courgettes and peppers, there are ex-pats and Clovis, the wolf-dog. Phyllida entertains whilst the partner who cannot be named avoids kitchens and American visitors. In the beating sun of the South, the cicadas chatter, the evening frogs sing and the eternal aperitif will prevail. But, amongst this desirable lifestyle, sadness is waiting.
