More DescriptionThe life of Theo Mund is a true rags to riches story. From humble beginnings helping his father sell vegetables in the Great Depression, Theo rose to the pinnacle of financial achievement as the founder of the largest sod grass business in the south (an accomplishment that, combined with his affinity for three-piece suits and black Chrysler Imperials, earned him the moniker, The Sod Father). Along the way, he pioneered many of the standards used in the turf business today, including the development of the Spyder portable forklift, the use of pallets and the reliance on semi-truck transportation. His more notable clients included the Dallas Cowboys, Shell Oil and Stephen F. Austin University. Preferring to conduct business "with a handshake" instead of through legal contracts, Theo eventually found himself embroiled in a massive Chapter 11 proceeding that culminated in his arrest and imprisonment on federal fraud charges. From this rock bottom position, Theo was able to pull himself up by his bootstraps and once again find success, relying on his inherent business sense, the dedication of his family and relatives, and his faith.
