Book Description:
|
This book analyses the negative portrayal of the widow in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century German fiction. Deemed as threatening due to their ungovernable lust, widows were often depicted by male writers as sexual predators. Female authors, however, highlighted the invisibility of the widow and portrayed her as alienated from society.
