Imagine an alternate Texas history in which "Remember The Alamo!" is a call for celebration rather than defeat and martyrdom. A Texas in which the Texans won the Alamo. This is the story of how the Texans won the Alamo and won their independence in one glorious battle. After capturing the Alamo from Santa Anna's brother-in-law, General Martin Perfecto de Cos, the Texians begin to prepare the Alamo for the up coming war of Texas Independence. They know Santa Anna will be coming with an army, an they get word that he is coming much sooner than they anticipated. The freedom fighters that elect to remain and garrison the Alamo only number a hundred, but they are determined to die before surrendering it back to their Mexican oppressors. Quickly they implement a bold and cunning defensive strategy that includes defensive works surrounding the entire Alamo compound, interior defensive barriers, and more. On a tactical level the Texians will use an assortment of common frontier tools and items in aid of their defense. The outcome is not sure, but they are more confident than ever that they will emerge victorious this time. 1836 is not a novel, but it is a discussion that seeks to give us a realistic alternative to the one battle that made Texans a recognized people worldwide.
