E. M. Nathanson was born in the Bronx, New York on February 17, 1928. Before becoming an author, he worked as a copy boy for Women's Wear Daily and as a stringer for The Washington Post. His 1965 novel, The Dirty Dozen, was adapted into a movie in 1967. His other books included It Gave Everybody Something to Do, The Latecomers, A Dirty Distant War, Knight's Cross, and Lovers and Schemers. He died on April 5, 2016 at the age of 88.
