More DescriptionAt the Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival launch in the Huon Valley in 2022, festival director Dr L J M Owen announced the theme for the annual competition for young writers. In the 100th anniversary year of Dame Agatha Christie's visit to Tasmania, it was to imagine a story that the queen of mystery might have written if she had made Tasmania her home. Not such a stretch of the imagination, as she loved the island so much, she wrote in her autobiography that she had hoped to move here one day.The competition was promoted through libraries and schools, attracting entries from all over the state and even further afield. The winners were invited to Government House for a special presentation by Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania, on 9 March 2023 as part of Tasmania Reads Week. These are eight of the stories from writers aged five to 16.
