More DescriptionThe Black Summer fires in 2019/2020 were devastating in Victoria and around Australia. The ripples of the effects on the environment were catastrophic, but the trauma is still felt by the residents of the Alpine region today. These stories are intended as a form of recovery for readers, as key members of the Alpine community share their stories and experiences of the fires. The stories were recorded as part of the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Project to help improve the emotional well-being and mental health of people at risk of experiencing the impacts of unresolved trauma due to the 2019/2020 Black Summer bushfires.Thirteen Kintsugi Heroes shared their inspiring stories as part of the project. The hero stories gave different perspectives of the impact of the Black Summer bushfires and included the following roles:¿ Farmers¿ Fire fighters¿ Government (State and Local) ¿ Mental Health Professional¿ Support organisations¿ Community Clubs The project was able to successfully improve the emotional well-being and mental health of people at risk of experiencing the impacts of unresolved trauma due to bushfires including:¿ Helping people realise that they have unidentified or unresolved trauma and encouraging them to reach out for support.¿ Increased conversations and sharing around the ongoing emotional impacts related to the bushfires.¿ Give heroes the therapeutic benefit associated with sharing their story. While the project had a focus on the Black Summer bushfires in the Alpine area it has resulted in the development of valuable resources that are available on multiple media platforms that will continually support people impacted by bushfires around the world.
