Author Biography
Brandao, Ignacio de Loyola (Author)
Ignacio de Brandao was born in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He started his career in journalism at a very young age writing movie reviews in his hometown. Later he moved to Sao Paulo where he worked for the major newspapers and wrote several novels. Zero was finished in 1969 but was only published five years later in Italy, followed by its publication in Brazil in 1975.

The book was received with critical acclaim and given literary prizes, but it was banned in 1976 by the Ministry of Justice. The censorship was lifted in 1979, and soon after Zero became a bestseller. And Still the Earth (1982) is often mentioned as a modern Orwellian novel in the manner of 1984.The author presents a dystopian vision of the future in Brazil with the destruction of the natural environment-the scarcity of water; and the crowds in the city oppressed by the brutality of an omnipotent government that controls every one of its subjects.
