More DescriptionThe Boreal States believe that the city of Osiris was destroyed fifty years ago. The Republic of Antarctica has known of its continued existence, and kept this knowledge secret. When a boat is shipwrecked on the shores of Tierra del Fuego in Patagonia, rumours abound that that it has come from "the lost city.” Taeo, a political exile and opium junkie living on Tierra Del Fuego, sees this as an opportunity, and hatches a plan to give Antarctica the upper hand in the coming battle for Osiris.
Taeo presses a pilot named Ramona into his service as a courier. Ramona doesn’t know Taeo’s true intentions, but she has an agenda of her own. Ramona’s mother is sick and dying, and her only hope lies in the wealthy city of Cataveiro, where Ramona hopes to procure Boreal medicine. Taeo manages to find and befriend Vikram, the survivor of the shipwreck, but his carefully laid plans never work out as expected.
Ramona’s quest to find a cure for her mother leads her to some unexpected information that could destabilize the entire region... As the political situation in the Boreal States heats up, the situation in Osiris itself becomes even more precarious. Adelaide, who has been living anonymously in Western Osiris, begins to uncover unimaginable secrets--secrets related to Ramona’s discoveries.
The second book of the Osiris project by E. J. Swift explodes the previously narrow setting of the first book into a widescreen panorama. She paints the remains of the post-climate change, post-scarcity world in stark, bloody colors. Cataveiro is a futuristic political thriller that straddles oceans and continents.
