The adjective has four distinct uses. a. It may be added directly to its noun, either preced ing it (sentences 1, 2, 3, 4, 82) or following it without a connecting word (sentence 5). (Appendix IX.) b. It may be added to a subject by a verb; that is, it may be a predicate attribute (sentence 4, 82). c. It may be connected to the object by a verb; that is, it may be a predicate attribute of the object (sentence 7, 82). d. It may be connected to a noun or pronoun by a verbal in a way similar to either b or c (sentences 6 and 8). In the first case (a), the adjective is a direct adjunct; in each of the other three cases, it is an indirect adjunct. 84. Development. 1. Honest men command respect. 2.
