Murray Ball was born in Feilding, New Zealand on January 26, 1939. He was a cartoonist who was best known for creating the Footrot Flats comic series. His Footrot Flats cartoons ran from 1975-1994 in newspapers around the world. His other cartoons included Stanley the Paleolithic Hero, Bruce the Barbarian, and All the King's Comrades. The movie, Footrot Flats: The Dog's Tale, was released in 1986. He was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2002 for his services as a cartoonist. He died on March 12, 2017 at the age of 78.
