More DescriptionAt the time of writing this book the mining industry has been in a slump for close to a decade since the GFC in 2008. There have been highs and lows in between. However, since joining the Industry as it was peaking in 2007, I have managed to stay employed for over 12 years despite going through one of the biggest mining downsizes in modern history. Not only was I employed I managed to earn more, every year since I started. This helped me to raise a family, buy toys, own a home and investment property, ultimately leaving the industry after reaching my goals to spend more time with my family on our terms. I have overseen hundreds of new starters and watched some change their lives for the better and some struggle to ultimately fail, sometimes both at work and at home. I am not an economist, this book will not give you any hints on the state of mining in Australia or tips for the stock market. What I will do, is explain some of the myths associated with FIFO work and the way your time vs dollars stack up between working at home and working away. Some of the psychological struggles and the vast gap in mindsets between townies and Mine workers. This is the same information I have gathered and given to my closest friends and relatives. I have written this book to reflect an honest guide from years of my own personal experience. If you are considering a job in the mines or know someone who is, this book is for you.
