Journalism and Technological Change

Technologies, media and journalism are closely related. This is true for the present time as much as in historical perspective. New technologies, however, develop their specific potential only within the cultural and social contexts in which they are applied and through which they are mutually interrelated. This volume considers not only the implementation and achievements as well as failures of media-technological innovations themselves, but in particular the influences on the practical demands and processes in media companies as well as professional roles and social positions/self-perception of journalists. The complete analysis includes a time frame of more than 150 years and thus a continuum of technological, social, cultural and media developments in the area of journalistic history that in this form has so far not been studied.
