More DescriptionIn the language of children and young people, the commitments that governments make to them through laws, policies, strategies and plans are treated as promises. They are promises made to ensure resources of government are channelled into meaningful improvement to their lives. This report focuses on the promises made across five domains of children's and young people's lives: Education, Health, Safety, Wellbeing, and Citizenship. This inaugural report monitors, maps and grades the "promises" made by the South Australian Government to ensure that children in this State are healthy, safe and thriving. Prepared an annual basis from 2023, it is the report that sets the benchmarks against which progress in subsequent years will be assessed. It also makes recommendations to the relevant government department/s re what improvements can be made. These have been developed in consultation with children, young people and other stakeholders. Monitoring of and reporting on activities of government is important for accountability and tracking the achievements and failures across government in relation to children and young people's rights, lives and futures. Independent monitoring and reporting on the actions of government in regard to the promises that have been made is a crucial element of system accountability and rights protection.
