More DescriptionMavis Lilian Southwell was born in Camden NSW on 26th July 1918, to parents Edward Veness Southwell and Minnie Elizabeth (nee Smart). Growing up in Camden, Mavis documented her daily life with diary entries, letters to family and friends, along with these hand written stories compiled in 1986.The stories and memories contained within these pages, transport you back to the early 1900s and a way of life which now eludes us. Recollections of early school days at Camden Public School, Camden Methodist Church annual event and concerts, Sunday School, Ladies Church Aid, Methodist Girls' League, Camden Hospital and the WWII days in Camden. These stories are a reminder to appreciate the simpler times and to triumph in times of hardship.Read the history of Mavis' great grandfather, Thomas Southwell of Parkwood, who was a founder of Methodism in regional NSW and a prominent pioneer of early colonial days. Mavis lived a life of service, in more ways than one. As the Southwell family members before her, Mavis was a dedicated Christian, selflessly serving the Methodist Church and local community. Humbly dedicated to her dear friend and 'Boss' Philip Benjamin Hodge, Mavis cared for Mr Hodge until his passing at the remarkable age of 102. By Kellee Cordina (Sharpe)
