Eric Knowles was born in Nelson, Lancashire, England in 1953. His first job was in engineering before he left for the field of antiques, a love of which he had inherited from his parents.
He worked his way up at Bonham's, an auction house in London, from 1975, when he started as a porter, to 1985 when he was given a full directorship which included responsibility for the company's lalique glass sales.
Knowles has been active in multi-media, contributing his expertise to BBC radio's "Jimmy Young Show," BBC Homes and Antiques Magazine, as well as to television.
His books include Discovering Antiques: A Guide to the World of Antiques and Collectibles (1996), Art Deco (1991) and many of the miller's antique price guide series on Victoriana, Art Noveau, and more.
Knowles serves as director of ceramics and works of art at Bonham's and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
