The tragic discovery of the bodies of 58 Chinese immigrants in a container in Dover in June 2000 highlighted the global scope of human trafficking. This study considers the smuggling of Chinese migrants against the overall context of trafficking at the global level and reviews recent research. It addresses the prevalent myths about irregular migration from China, and discusses the policy measures taken by China and other countries to combat human trafficking.
