Stephen Levine was born in New York City in 1945. He received a bachelor's degree from City University of New York, a master's degree from American University, and a PhD from Florida State University. He is a professor of political science at Victoria University-Wellington, New Zealand, a founder of Victoria University's honors-level parliamentary internship program, and the overall coordinator for the honors program in political science and international relations. He has written extensively about New Zealand politics and elections. His books include Key to Victory: The New Zealand General Election of 2008, New Zealand As It Might Have Been, and Stardust and Substance: The New Zealand General Election of 2017.
