Williams, Richard (Author)
Phil Spector (born 1939) was an American music producer, musician, and songwriter. He was one of the most influential producers in popular music during the 1960s. He was best known for his creation of the wall of sound. He had 13 Top 10 singles and worked with the Crystals, the Ronettes, the Righteous Brothers, Tina Turner, The Beatles and others. In 1989, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His books include Phil Spector -- Back to Mono (1958-1969) (1993); and Phil Spector: Out of His Head (2003). In 2009, he was convicted of a 2003 murder of an actress and sentenced to 19 years to life in prison. Phil Spector died in a hospital in California on January 16, 2021. He was 81.
