Roselaar, Cees S. (Author)
Peter de Vries was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 27, 1910. He graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1931. From 1938-1944, he was an editor for Poetry magazine in Chicago. He left to join the editorial staff of The New Yorker.

His first novel, But Who Wakes the Bugler?, was published in 1940 and illustrated by the cartoonist Charles Addams. His other works include No But I Saw the Movie, Comfort Me with Apples, The Tents of Wickedness, The Blood of the Lamb, Madder Music, and Slouching Towards Kalamazoo. Two of his books, The Tunnel of Love and Reuben, Reuben were adapted as films, as was one short story, Witch's Milk, which was retitled Pete 'n' Tilly for its 1972 film. He died on September 28, 1993.
