More DescriptionA book of photographs and text arising out of a collaboration between artists Sophia Xeros-Constantinides and Konrad Winkler. This work explores the darker side of motherhood and the maternal-infant relationship, as enacted by Xeros-Constantinides in her studio with her daughter's doll as baby. Winkler has documented the performance. The project is about what having babies can do, to your mind, to your body and to your life, as well as to baby's life and mind. It proposes baby-making as undoing and full of mystery - things unseen, deeply felt, yet unspoken. It notices the worriment which emerges along with baby, taking up residence in the mother's mind and shadowing the pair. Having been made inside our own mothers, and developing through infancy and childhood in relation to our mothers, as women we in turn make babies, we become mothers ourselves and in the process we are impelled to re-make the self.
