More DescriptionSyafika (a public servant who feels inadequate) is infatuated with her charming and manipulative former colleague Anthony. Syafika's self-absorbed friend D'arby wants to save the world but doesn't know how, and is doing secret research trying to make pills that cure addiction because he thinks his PhD research is pointless. Meanwhile, Mamadou (40, artist who has failed at life, is passionate about nature but cold to people) returns to Sydney after discovering he has a 10-year-old son (Ousman, Syafika's cousin). The garden paradise that Mamadou designs and builds for Syafika's mother Rose leads to him to collaborate with Nhat, creating a virtual reality tour to reconnect people with nature and reduce their suffering. After finishing his PhD, D'arby gets a job at RenewBank, which is developing a cryptocurrency that can only be used to buy sustainable products and services and will be given free to people who use renewable energy. D'arby loses his job just before RenewBank launches, leaving him directionless.Syafika discovers that Anthony is using her because he is spying on Rose and that Rose and her sister Amanda have been helping the Citizen Democrats, a political party that wants members of parliament to be randomly selected citizens. After the Citizen Democrats win power and hold a successful referendum to replace elections with random selection, Anthony abandons Syafika. Syafika's infatuation with Anthony is broken when she falls in real love with Nhat and realizes that it is possible to enjoy being herself.Although the environmental, social and economic benefits of RenewBank are unprecedented, D'arby is still in despair and sets out on a lonely journey hoping that if he can accept that he isn't better or cleverer than other people he will find his part of saving the world.
