For years the arrogant young King Alexi has watched over his nation with his steadfast band of knights, striving to restore it to its former glory. But when he sends a band of surveyors to a dormant volcano to search for lost deposits, what he finds in the darkness of those old mines and factories is a gruesome piece of his nation’s past that some ancient king had tried to bury. Meanwhile, in a gray land between life and death called the Spirit Realm, Sorek Randama dutifully continues his scholarly service to the headmaster of the Academy of Necromancy. But when the headmaster approaches him with concerns that somebody has broken into his office, Sorek’s attempts to ease his friend’s paranoia lead him deeper into the academy’s past than he ever wanted to go.
