The so-called Rosenwald sheets are one of the earliest surviving examples of woodcut tarot, and the most complete of their era. The charm of this deck is in its joyful, almost childish imagery. And who wouldn't be charmed by knights in the guise of centaurs? The surviving uncut sheets were rejects, used in book binding in 1501. The cards were traced from images of the originals, and were hand coloured with water-colour pencils. The cards are slightly larger than the originals.
