Geologists, biologists and historians researched the story of the Prom. Conservationists defended the ethos of national parks.Their work is incorporated in this history. We acknowledge elders past present and emerging of the Bratowaloong and Boonwarrung people on whose traditional land Wilsons Promontory National Park is situated. This history is ongoing. The first version was produced by Ros Garnet, continued by Terry Synan and Daniel Catrice. Other stories were written by Gary Wallis, Cheryl Glowery, Jane Vale, Jane Lennon, Linden Gilbank, Ian McKellar, Ailsa Richter, Friends of the Prom newsletter editors, the staff who produce publicity releases from government departments and journalists of state and local newspapers. Bringing all these histories together in a coherent whole is the aim of this present history. There is no conclusion because this history is ongoing.The Prom has been a significant part of the lives of many people: rangers, naturalists, geologists, historians, volunteers, campers, students, photographers and tourists.Our hope is that this latest version of its history will bring happy memories to past visitors and encourage new visitors to respect the values of the Park and enjoy all that the Prom has to offer.Mary Ellis and the South Gippsland Conservation Society 2022
