This book is an unusual kid's book. The main character is scary at first sight but in reality he just wants to have friends just like all of us do. The Good Kitty image was created during my undergraduate studies at Western Michigan University. He was created from personal and artistic influences. I have live with kitties all my life and this interaction is one of the aspects to my creation of Good Kitty , the other being artistic. My artistic influences are the painters : Chaim Soutine , Francis Bacon , and Willem DeKooning. The influence of DeKooning is evident in my use of the red lips and teeth in the Good Kitty image. This is reminiscent of DeKooning women series paintings. My goal is for you to identify with and become Good Kitty's friend. Not to judge him by his appearance alone : scary but rather to get to know him and realize that he just wants to be friend just like all of us do. Thanks for looking, Patrick B. Humphreys
