"A DEI in the Life" is a play on words referring to daily reflections during "a day in the life" of the owner of the journal. These journals contain several sets of checklists which has been compiled by Dr Clif P Lewis, who is a licensed Psychologist. The journals are a toolbox for helping leaders develop inclusive workplaces. The topics covered are diverse and range from hiring practices to how to think about diversity when making decisions.

Using the checklists in this journal consistently, along with writing down personal reflections will help the user look beyond surface-level diversity to uncover core beliefs, practices and structures which either help or hinder DEI in an organisation. The checklists look something like this:
I understand what is meant by Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).
I know what dimensions of diversity (e.g. gender, race, disability, age) are legally protected from discrimination in the jurisdictions where my business operates.
I continuously familiarize myself with potentially non-observable characteristics of diversity in my specific social context (e.g. education, socio-economic status, culture, religion).
I understand that DEI involves more than simply celebrating difference.
I understand that equity means everyone in my organisation receives respectful and dignified treatment.
I understand that equity requires systems for recognition, acknowledgment and reward that are fair and just.
I understand that "fair and just" does not mean that everyone is treated the same, because everyone is not the same.
I understand that inclusion requires that all of my employees have the same access to information and resources.
I understand that inclusion requires that all of my employees are involved in work groups and activities.
I understand that inclusion requires that all of my employees have the same ability to influence decision-making processes.
