It has since, of course, become a classic and is, perhaps, the best known of Ibsen's work in the U.S.Nora Helmer, its central character, is a middle class housewife with three children. Torvald, her husband, adores her. She is his "little skylark" his " little scared, helpless darling." She is everything to him except his equal. And Nora herself is seemingly satisfied with her status until a situation arises that opens her eyes to the true nature of their relationship.
