More DescriptionAs America is building its strength to cross the English Channel and fight its way across Nazi occupied France, Tom O'Brien finds himself shunted to far-away Iran where the focus of the Allied war effort is moving Lend Lease supplies from the Persian Gulf to Russia. It's supposed be a humdrum mission, to help the OSS set up a mission in that country to keep on eye things, a mission that is supposed to keep O'Brien out of trouble. But Iran is being occupied by the British and the Russians for the duration of the war, and the Red Army never travels without their secret police, the NKVD. O'Brien finds himself involved in the investigation of a strange murder of an American contractor who had Nazi sympathies and an African American soldier suspected of killing the man. As he travels into the wild tribal lands of southern Iran trying to untangle the mysteries of the murder, O'Brien finds himself being hunted by an old NKVD adversary pursuing his own vendetta.
