The British Admiralty made William Dampier Captain of England's first official voyage of discovery. In a barely sea-worthy ship, Dampier sailed to the shores of New Holland. It was the second time he'd touch the shores of Australia. In the going out and returning, Dampier made numerous discoveries amongst the remotest of the East India Islands, the distant shores of New-Holland, and New-Guinea. Includes: maps and illustrations particular the voyage.Dampier shared these discoveries with an eager audience in these two volumes. The first of these two New Holland volumes was published in 1703 and the second six years later-after Dampier had returned from his third circumnavigation round the world. The voyage to New Holland saw Dampier complete his second circumnavigation of the world, a remark-able feat considering the ship he'd been assigned threatened to rot away under the crew's feet and, indeed, did sink while at anchor.
