More DescriptionRumours of an approaching environmental disaster are sweeping from country to country. Thousands of refugees are desperate to reach the border of Aelveron and the mountain-locked lands beyond, rumoured to be their only hope for survival. Among them is the warlike Myrmycean Nation. Feared by all it is determined to claim Aelveron for its own and the capital city, Aelderon, is its ultimate destination. Aelderon, a thriving, prosperous metropolis, seen by so many as special is in fact quite an ordinary place. Wealth and poverty co-exist here, hope and despair share the same streets, love and hate the same hearts; politicians debate, bureaucrats plan, siblings scheme, rebels plot, soldiers arm, parents fret, and marriages fail. Today, as dawn breaks, the people are waking up to find that life's norms are not so certain and a terrible Fate seems to be gathering like a cloud above their city. Aelderon was conceived almost fifty years ago as an allegory of everyday life in anytown. The setting may seem fantastical but it is not a fantasy. The characters described can be met in the workplace, in the home, in the media. Their motivations and concerns are recognisable and understandable, as are the predicaments they find themselves in. It is about everyday things like love and hate, hope and disappointment, wanting and getting, revenge and regret. It examines how individuals deal with crises, political and personal. How the choices, obsessions, desires and motivations of a few can effect the lives of the many. From the ruling elite to the poorest refugee; from the mightiest commander to the humblest warrior. From the few that believe that they are in control, to the many that know they are not. Lives changed by individuals that believe they are doing the right thing. Each one caught in a web of events that will bring some a chance at redemption and others the opportunity for revenge.'Minutes pass and eventually, slowly the cathartic sobs die away. She raises her head. Her eyes are red. She lifts the hem of her dress and wipes her face. Breathing out a final, quivering sob, she swallows and looks around. The sun is shining full on the lawns and filling the trees. Its powerful beams igniting the flowerbeds with colour. Estath could easily believe that she has been asleep and just awoken from a terrible dream.'Aelderon comes in two volumes of around 640 pages each.
