Delaney Schnell applied to be one of the first female Pinkerton Agents in the Denver office. Abandoned by her father at fifteen, Delaney struggled to finish high school, then spent the rest of the Civil War working as a nurse in an army hospital. Working her way through college, she earned a degree in chemistry. While she is thrilled to work a case where her education will be put to use, she is unhappy having to marry her trainer. However, Delaney has done tough things before, and if a marriage of convenience is what she must endure to be a Lady Pinkerton Agent, she will endure.¿¿Griff Picard is a seasoned Pinkerton Agent, transferred from the Chicago office after the Great Chicago Fire. He isn't thrilled to have a partner, especially an inexperienced one, and a female at that. When informed he must marry her or be out of a job, he reluctantly gives in. Personally, he thinks the idea of female agents is ridiculous. Women should be wives and mothers, not detectives chasing dangerous criminals and solving mysteries. ¿¿When sent to a mining town to investigate a series of mysterious deaths, Delaney and Griff will have to learn to work together.
