The concept of transition economies mainly refers to the paradigm shift in the economic system of various countries from central planning to free market economy since early 90s, after the fragmentation of the Soviet Union in 1991. However, building a brand new system with all necessary establishments, institutes, administrations and regulations while experiencing the influences of the inheritance of the previous regime presents a major challenge. Therefore, this process cannot be described briefly as eliminating the state intervention and liberalizing the economy with reforms; since it presents a multidimensional spectrum of results in political, economic and social basis. This book presents evaluations of social and economic issues in transition economies by using various quantitative approaches and most recent data sets. Thereby it addresses the needs of researchers, students, policy makers as well as interested general public.
