Sneak Peak
'THE TOURIST in search of grand and beautiful scenery finds an embarrassment of riches in Colorado. Among so many attractions he is at a loss which to choose, and having made a choice, he is frequently troubled with doubts as to the wisdom of his selection. Recognizing this fact, the Passenger Department of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, after a careful and thoughtful discussion of the situation, has decided to make a selection of a tour that shall embrace the most varied and picturesque scenery to be found on the line of any railroad in the world, included in a single trip, at a moderate cost.'
Synopsis
This lovely late Victorian travel guide for the Rocky Mountains is a descriptive tour that shows the points of interest in the exact order of the Trip "Around the Circle." Starting from Denver, the great railroad center of Colorado, through the lakes, resorts, summits, and guiding routes and trails that show magnificent scenery and information about the many health and pleasure resorts along the route. Written by S. K. Hooper, who became the General Passenger Agent for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad on June 1, 1884 and was committed to growing D&RG passenger usage. He worked extensively on promotional initiatives to entice both travellers and tourists and helped design the renowned D&RG logo and produced numerous pamphlets and commercials. Ridership increased dramatically as a result of Major Hooper's inventive efforts, and he went on to produce several publications for The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. This lovely guide illustrated with photographs and maps gives a glimpse of a small section of the Western United States in the late Victorian Era.
