More Description"The early 1960s were incredibly exciting times in the worlds of fashion, magazines, art, music, and photography. Richard Avedon, as always, was at the center of it all - and through him, so was I." So begins Lewin's photographic memoir of his sixteen years as assistant to the great Richard Avedon. It was a time when magazine art directors were reinventing the medium, fashion designers were producing clothes that shocked the world, and there was an explosion of creativity. The birth of youth culture, the dawn of the supermodel; these were years that will never be relived, during which Avedon was transforming the way fashion was portrayed, infusing movement, humor, theatricality, and personality into his images in a way that was completely original and unmistakably his own. In this collection featuring behind-the-scenes photos, alternative takes, and never-before-seen images froman iconic era in photographic history, Lewin turns his lens to the story of what once was, working out of Avedon's studio after hours, helping to create the aura for the era - from the psychedelic colors in Avedon's famous portraits of the Beatles through a newly created "solarization" process, to outtakes of shoots in what were then considered far-o lands, Avedon: Behind the Scenes tells the story, shows the processes, and reveals the feelings, on set and off, of this revolutionary period in photography." AUTHOR: Gideon Lewin was born in Jerusalem and graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Lewin began his career as studio manager and "right-hand man" to Richard Avedon, a collaboration that lasted for 16 years. During this time, he collaborated with Avedon on many projects, including the printing of exhibitions and editions, working on books, and traveling with him extensively.
