On the yacht's maiden voyage, the crew collides with a violent storm, which nearly sucks them into a massive vortex, and the tumultuous waves throw the yacht onto an uncharted volcanic island where they discover remnants of ships and planes welded into the lava surface. An extraordinary find until they begin investigating the strange phenomenon and government officials begin surveillance on them. When a man offering some insight into the matter winds up murdered, the Haydens are forced to flee from their apartment in Miami and go on the run to New Orleans looking for clues. Meeting up with salvager Dax Drake, they get swept away in a twist of circumstances and find themselves entangled in a terrorist plot.
