More DescriptionAbout the Book: Billy Brain Remembers Again explains Alzheimer's disease and the benefits of music therapy at a surface level. Through playful and colorful illustrations, young children can understand the changes that come with the onset of Alzheimer's and how the magic of music can stimulate Alzheimer's patients' memories and improve their moods. All proceeds will be donated to the Glenner Alzheimer's Family Center in San Diego and the Alzheimer's Association. About the Author: Hello, my name is Kate Cassiano, and I am a senior at Long Beach Polytechnic High School. From my experience with music therapy and witnessing my grandfather's decline, I drew inspiration to write a children's book based on my grandparents' Alzheimer's story. While most children's books about Alzheimer's explain the disease from the child's perspective, I wanted my book to approach the topic with a scientific theme. To do this, the characters in my book are brain figures- Billy and Betty Brain, who represent my grandparents Bill and Sue. The antagonist, Pliny Plaque, is the beta-amyloid plaque, a hallmark trait in Alzheimer's, and one of the protagonists, Norman Note, represents music therapy's influence. Writing this book has allowed me to help people grappling with the cruelty of Alzheimer's and explore further my passions for music therapy, psychology, and brain sciences. I hope that this book inspires people of all ages to pursue their creative passions and to try music therapy with loved ones suffering from these neurodegenerative diseases.
