Abner Kincaid is a 59-year-old Vietnam vet with a bipolar father, an abandoning mother, and a bad case of PTSD exacerbated by alcoholism. When you first meet Kincaid, you think you've got his number-and, for a few pages, you do. He's a slick-talkin' holy-roller preacher, making a dishonest living ministering to the faithful and not averse to sharing some extra-special Christian love with whatever female congregant catches his eye. He drinks, he curses, he quotes the Bible to suit his purposes. Business...well, business is terrible, but he's a man of faith. When fortunes reverse he hatches a scheme to lead the flock back to the land to work-out and grow strong Jesus's way-through the toil of their limbs and the sweat of their brows-and he'll squeeze 'em good for the privilege.
