More DescriptionIntroducing Owl Young Readers, a series of books designed to help children aged 4-7 develop their reading skills in a structured and sequential way. Our books introduce phonic concepts gradually, allowing children to build their confidence from the very start.
We understand that guiding children in their reading journey can be challenging for parents, guardians, and teachers alike. That's why our books are designed to be as much for you as they are for your child. With clear indications of the phonemes covered in each unit, our books offer guidance and support as you help your child progress through the series.
Our books are filled with cute and likeable characters, set against vibrant and engaging photographic backgrounds. This makes the reading experience fun and enjoyable for both you and your child.
Each unit introduces new phonic knowledge and skills while reinforcing what has been learned in previous units. The Practice page at the end of each story provides a quick way to practice the new skills and/or concepts being taught in this book and can be used before or after reading the story.
How to use this book To help your child get the most out of Owl Young Readers, it's a good idea to check if they know the target sounds and corresponding letters before reading each book. Encourage them to use their phonic knowledge to read the words by blending the sounds together from left to right, like 'c-a-t' to make 'cat.'
It's important to encourage the use of pure sounds, which are the consonant sounds without added 'uh' sounds. So instead of saying 'cuh-a-tuh,' encourage your child to say 'c-a-t.'
When your child reads new words using their developing phonics knowledge, praise them for their progress.
Sometimes, high-frequency words might be challenging for your child to decode, like 'said.' In these cases, you can help them understand the letters and sounds by asking them to sound out the letters they know, like 's-d' in 'said,' and then provide the sound they don't know, like 'ai.' Encourage them to blend the sounds together to make the word, like 's-e-d' to make 'said.' If they're struggling, it's okay to provide the word for them.
