Katzman's career included creating newsstands, a kosher delicatessen, book-stores, collectible vintage periodical shops. Then he tried publication distribution. This created an unexpectedly combative lawsuit over the right to compete. A Chicago firm - the largest distribution company in the U.S. - tried to put Bob's very small company out of business. Bob finally defeated the monopoly after 6 years. One outcome of the landmark court case was a victory for Queer rights: Katzman pioneered breaking the discrimination barrier, beginning the mainstream distribution of Queer publications in America and assuring equal access in the U.S. marketplace.
