More DescriptionIndiana is located in the Mid-Western region of the United States, next to Chicago and the Great Lakes. However, many people don't know much about Indiana. In fact, as the 16th most populous state in the United States, Indiana is composed of many beautiful towns, such as Carmel and Fishers, named the best place to live in the United States by CNN Money magazine. Columbus is famous for its architecture and national historic landmarks. Many people might not know that late Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, was born in Gary, Indiana. Indiana is also well known for its sports. Indianapolis is the home of the NBA team the Indiana Pacers, the NFL team the Indianapolis Colts, and the Indy 500. The NCAA headquarters is also based in Indianapolis. Indiana has four distinct seasons: the blooming Spring, comfortable Summer, colorful Fall, and silver Winter. People in Indiana call themselves Hoosiers. They are simple and honest with good nature, and easy to get along with. Because of the excellent educational institutions, such as Indiana University (founded in 1820), Purdue University (founded in 1869), and the University of Notre Dame (founded in 1842), many Chinese students come to Indiana. Among them, there are outstanding talents. For example, the late General Liren Sun (Sun Li-jen), a national hero during WWII, and Dr. Jiaxian Deng (Teng, Chia-hsien), a leading organizer and key contributor to the Chinese nuclear weapon programs, are from Indiana. Many of these talents are currently working in different fields in China and the U.S. 2016 is the 200th anniversary of establishment of the State of Indiana. Endorsed by the Indiana Bicentennial Commission, the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis (CI-Indy) presents this book to the readers. This book introduces outstanding Chinese who study, live, and work in Indiana. Indiana nurtures these individuals and they in turn contribute to the society of Indiana and the world. Thousands of outstanding Chinese have been studying and working in Indiana; this book only covers a few of them as representatives. Hopefully their stories will encourage the younger generations of Chinese and let our American friends know the legacy of Chinese Hoosiers.
