Benjamin Markovits was born in Palo Alto, California in 1973 and grew up in Texas, London and Berlin. He studied literature at Yale University and Oxford University. He teaches creative writing at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is a writer. His works includes The Syme Papers, Fathers and Daughters, Imposture, A Quiet Adjustment, Playing Days, and Childish Loves. His recent novel, You Don't Have to Live Like This, won the 2016 James Tait Black Prizes for fiction.
