More DescriptionFor many years I have been taking photo images from the window of my study. At first I was testing my digital cameras, but I soon observed the changing scenery of the sky among the buildings and on the avenue below the window, in different weather and succeeding seasons, during the day or at night, and it became a habit, almost an addiction.
The changing view from the window sometimes evoked my own inner mood, the joy from a beautiful blue sky on a sunny day or a gloomy feeling when looking at Third Avenue covered with heavy snow and enveloped in a fog that left even the silhouettes of the buildings hardly visible.
Buildings look different depending on whether it's day or night, or even from day to day; most certainly from summer to winter, or when it rains. The serenity of the blue summer sky can sometimes change quickly to an ominous view of dark blue and black clouds gathering between the building roofs, and the pouring rain can hide the familiar view, which only changes again with falling dark. The City probably never sleeps, except perhaps a bit for a few hours before the early dawn, and the activity on the Avenue below and on the side streets follows the rhythm of the traffic. It seems that people live, work and sleep in different shifts and keep life actively visible below my window in perpetuity. And the vibrations and sounds of the passing, endless traffic, punctuated by the sirens of ambulances or police cars or fire engines, all together give me the feeling of being part of that crowd and loosen me from my solitude and loneliness, even if I'm alone in a large apartment.
The idea of this pictorial presentation is to show but a small detail in the life of a great City, a City that is just as pleasing to the eyes and impressive to the mind - if not more so - as Natural wonders without the artifacts of human creations.
