Fifty years have passed since then. I went on to lead a respectable life. I got degrees, wrote books, taught school, joined the Peace Corps, had children, a mortgage, grandchildren, a yard, but there was always a voice telling me not to get lost in things, to remember "thou from whence you came" and this voice is reflected in these poems.
