More DescriptionThis book describes the impressive social transformation achieved through art and culture by many residents of District 13 in Medellín.
The precinct still has difficulties and work pending. It has ceased to be a warzone and part of its area became one of the largest open-air galleries in the word, with trails furnished with beautiful, colored murals that relate the sorrows and hopes of its residents.
Here we will also recount the life-stories of the artists who painted these works in the Graffitour Comuna 13, who, through their art, have narrated events that ocurred in the times of the military conflict and who now reflect on current developments.
In like manner, we present the work of some social organizations who have contributed throgh a varierty of artistic and cultural projects, also some entrepreneurial ventures, to peacemaking and social change. These projects appeared following the construction of the escalators by local government and the inauguration of the graffiti circuit in the area.
Art and culture in Comuna 13 became important benchmarks for moving on from the military conflict and examples that can inspire other population groups on the planet, who seek to generate opportunilies and social change to overcome violence and crime in their territories.
