Human suffering is everywhere, and it impacts on our world and lives daily, yet we currently have no universal explanation as to why. We continue to lean upon the evolutionary perspective which simply implies it is an instinctive drive. This is an incredibly poor theory because we can override our instincts. This theory also dismisses something fundamental, negative emotions cause us suffering, yet they are triggered by language based conceptual ideas such as your sense of goodness as a human being which causes guilt. This means that the very human emotion of guilt has a universal in-built code which causes it to be triggered. This is the same for each negative emotion otherwise by using language we could continue to create hundreds of new ones, yet in humans there are only eight. These negative emotions cause us pain, lead to mental health issues, and they cause unhealthy thoughts and behaviours.
