This book "Contemporary Management of Multiple Myeloma" discusses in detail about the management of multiple myeloma. Multiple Myeloma is the second most common hematological malignancy in the United States. This book highlights the interplay between the malignant plasma cell and the microenvironment, and the role of genetic alterations, adhesion molecules and critical cytokines in this complex milieu. The first chapter of this book discusses epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis of multiple myeloma. The clinical presentation of the common plasma cell dyscrasias and discuss the diagnostic and prognostic work-up with a highlighting on recent advances in chapters 3 and 4. Chapters from 5 to 9 focus on the therapeutic evolution that has occurred, and accumulate the landmark clinical trials that have changed clinical practice for up-front treatment of both transplant eligible and ineligible patients and for those with relapsed and refractory disease.
