Colonies, mining outposts, trading stations and merchant shipping bearing the brunt of brutal raids, attacks characterised by being random, cold-blooded, and from unknown assailants. Josta Sams is caught in one such assault but survives with a small handful of others in the chaotic wreckage of their supply and salvage establishment. After an eventual and timely rescue, the group learn of their untimely redundancy from their employer, but fortune smiles as the team manages to form their own salvage company and begin profitable operations. However, the salvage operations result in the entanglement of the venture with a number of diverse characters, whose destinies become quickly linked.Deadly corporate power struggles where anything goes play against the impotent struggles of a weak military to ensure the devastation wrought by the mysterious aggressors escalates exponentially. Fate takes Josta on a roller-coaster adventure where the stakes are high and no quarter is given or expected.
