Kris Carr was born in 1971 and grew up in Pawling, New York. She attended the Wooster School in Danbury, Connecticut and the School for the Performing Arts in New Milford, Connecticut. In college she majored in English Literature and Art History at Sarah Lawrence College and Marymount Manhatten College.
Carr's early career was in dance, acting and photography. She later directed and choreographed srage productions.
Carr ran a successful photography business in New York City (1999-2006). She closed it a few years after she was diagnosed with cancer.
She was diagnosed with a rare cancer, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, that affected her liver and lungs. In 2007 she made a documentary, Crazy Sexy Cancer, and a book, Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips. The book helped young women facing cancer. Carr has been a featured speaker and began a blog website CrazySexyLife.com. Her other books include, Crazy Sexy Diet, and Crazy Sexy Juice
